Founded by Don Poffenroth and Kent Fleischmann, Dry Fly is located in beautiful Spokane, Washington. “We produce award winning vodka, gin, whiskies, and now bourbon using only locally grown grains and botanicals.”
Don and Kent were inspired by the natural beauty of the great Northwest to create Dry Fly and its range of distinctive spirits. “We felt so fortunate that we wanted to find some way to share the natural beauty and purity of the great Northwest. What better way than by producing fly fishing inspired distilled spirits, made from only the purest locally grown ingredients? Heck, even the name sort of presented itself.”
Their commitment to quality before quantity starts with their pot stills, custom designed by Christian Carl in Goppingen, Germany. Both have 450-litre capacities with an annual output of no more than 12 to 15 thousand cases.
Their ethos and products fit nicely with New Zealand, even if you are not a fly fishing whiskey drinker.
Spiritus is proud to introduce two outstanding Dry Fly products to New Zealand spirit lovers.
In 2007, business associates and fishing buddies Don Poffenroth and Kent Fleischmann were knee-deep in the Gallatin River, just outside the lie on a scenic bend. It was still early and the sun was rising slowly behind the alders. “It occurred to us how privileged we are to live, work, and fish in one of the most amazing places on Earth. We felt so fortunate that we wanted to find some way to share the natural beauty and purity of the great Northwest.”
They now run their own in-house consultation program, basically a workshop on how to run your own distillery, that has helped dozens of other distilleries get started.
Dry fly embraces the farm to bottle approach, producing every drop of liquor it sells from only raw materials grown locally by sustainable farms. They do not purchase bulk alcohol, nor do they think that is true craft distilling.
Dry Fly’s numerous awards include:
- Triticale Whiskey: 92/100 Highly Recommended by 2015 Ultimate Beverage Challenge USA; Gold Medal by 2015 San Diego Spirits Fest
- Washington Wheat Whiskey: Silver Medal by 2015 Beverage Tasting Institute
